White print on Havana paper

New trends in colors and materials are often suggested to us by our customers or are developed thanks to discussions with our most important distributors.

Brown recycled paper is having growing success because it is the natural material par excellence and more and more often we are asked to print in white. The white ink on the natural-colored material creates a surprising contrast, enhancing the ecological image of the paper.

Often, a few simple measures are enough to make the packaging pleasant and attractive: by using white on brown paper we will have a truly economical product with a highly effective result.

Now a small technical note: as we will see later in the in-depth article on inks, the type and color of the paper have a great influence on the color result.

In the case of white on Havana, the natural colored paper “dirties” the whiteness of the white making it a little grey. The optimal result is obtained by printing two passes of white, effectively creating a two-color print. In this way the coverage of the double pass will make the effect better. But we can do even more: in some cases, thanks to a particular setting of the printing machine, with the second pass we are able to transfer a greater quantity of ink onto the paper with the result of having a truly pure white and a surprising effect.
